The last time I wrote, it was LAST YEAR! (groan...)
A lot has happened since the last entry. We changed our locks and put bolts on our double-hung windows. Take THAT, Thieving Thievers! Also, I (Christina) got a new project at work. At the moment, my boss and I are working on a new pilot (as in "first episode of a TV series," not "person who flies planes") for ABC called "Eastwick," as in "Witches of..." It's a modern retooling, which is fun to work with. Also, I am casting a short film for a friend all on my own! (ACK!) I'm equally nervous and excited... and tired, since I am also doing the pilot so my hours are long and my weekends are packed. In fact, this is the first weekend in a while where I wasn't in the office.
In my down time before we got the pilot, I spent most of my days at Evan's parents' house (thanks, Paul and Kathy!!!!) working on a quilt for my mom. It started out in the planning phases as a lap-quilt for mom to toss over her while she lays on the couch watching TV... it ended up a queen-sized bed-quilt...
This is the quilt laid out on the floor, and below is me laying on it to show scale. Remember, I'm 5'10" so this is no piddly little twin bed quilt.
This picture is to show detail..... It's hard to see, so I'll tell you what to look for. There are two different beige-y cream-y prints, 5"x5" squares and 2"x5" rectangles, and 2"x2" terra-cotta squares. In the center of each 5x5 square, there are two concentric quilted daisies, and in the center of each terra cotta square, there is one quilted daisy.
I haven't officially given it to Mom yet, but she's seen it (in its "not quite ready yet" stages) so no surprise there.
In other quilting news, Angie (the recipient of my first major quilt project... see previous entries for details) now has her first "Big Girl Bed" with her special quilt on it. I haven't seen it in action yet, but I hear she loves it.
The other really rad thing that happened recently involves my oldest and dearest friend, Dylan Diehl, who is currently living in New York, being awesome. This week, the DVD of the final Broadway performance of Rent was released. I picked up a copy because Hubby and I like watching taped stage performances of Broadway and off-Broadway shows, since a $20 disc is cheaper than plane and theater tickets... but of course we prefer the real thing. Many of you know that I like to watch the bonus features on DVDs after (or sometimes before) I watch the movie. There was a featurette on the disc about the final lottery for the front two rows of tickets. (Rent was the first show to do a $20 per ticket lottery draw to let those of us who can't pay $100 a ticket to see the performance.) They drew the allotted raffle tickets, then they added another 10 or 15 pairs of tickets since it was the last show and all. These particular tickets were farther back than the first two rows, in the same section where former Rent cast members were seated for the final performance event. DYLAN'S FREAKING NAME WAS CALLED! The DVD showed her running out of the crowd, planting a smooch on the cheek of the raffle-ticket-puller-name-caller-guy, and calling Jon (her rad boyfriend) to tell him the good news. They spent more time talking to her than any of the other raffle-winners. I called her tonight to tell her that she was on the DVD... she had no idea. It's especially cool since it's her birthday tomorrow.
So in honor of Miss D's birthday, go check out the DVD and watch that bonus featurette... share the joy!
Anyway, sorry for the long time between posts. We had to replace our computers, which makes it tough to blog.
Love,
E&C
